Question about vicoden?

I have a prescription of vicoden for a severly strained achielles tendon. Unfortunately i have the flu now as well. My body aches and my head aches. Will taking vicoden slow down my recovery from this bug? I would love to be able to sleep for a little bit and not hurt, but i do not want to extend my illness. Thanks.
