If someone had plead guilty and was convicted, can the plaintiff appeal if it was a murder case?

My husband was charged and convicted for negligent homicide and recieved 5 yrs probation being it was his first charge ever. Now the family wants a different outcome. Can they do anything about it or would it be considered double jeopardy?
